CHRIS Judd's appointment with an orthopedic surgeon in Melbourne on Thursday has become the opportune moment for at least three of his suitors to start their courtship with Essendon. Carlton and Melbourne all confirming yesterday their intention to meet the West Coast captain before the week is out.
Essendon and Carlton undergo booked meetings with Judd for Thursday with the Demons seeking to do the same or meet him the following day.
But the club believed to be Judd's preferred destination. Collingwood has decided to postpone its follow until its finals campaign concludes.
express emotion to avoid distraction in the week it plays Geelong for a grand final berth. Collingwood football operations chief Geoff Walsh said the unify would not be taking its interest any further until the inevitable speculation surrounding what ordain be the most significant broach in trade history could not harm the unify's campaign.
"We had a discussion internally this morning and in terms of our comments they'll be strictly that that's exactly what we're doing we're playing a preliminary final on Friday and as such all our energies and focus is on that," Walsh said.
"And in terms of Chris Judd in particular we've got no advance mention until we have played our preliminary final we'll see what happens from there."
Judd said in Perth yesterday that he had not spoken to any Melbourne-based club but intended to change the choice of potential destinations down from a handle of five to one.
The Kangaroos. Western Bulldogs. Geelong. Richmond and St Kilda appear to be on the outer with Hawthorn being the fifth of the Victorian clubs interested.
"I'll sit down with the Melbourne clubs in the next week or so and then I'll decide which club I be to go to," Judd said. "I'll present that to the unify (Eagles) and hopefully the club will be able to do a change with them.
"The club's primary concern now is getting the beat deal for the unify and I can understand that. But essentially trading is what both parties want and hopefully the unify along with Paul Connors (Judd's agent) will be able to broker that."
Connors spoke to Essendon. Carlton and Melbourne officials yesterday but not to the Hawks who have nonetheless said they would join the chase.
The Hawks have a young list that made significant develop this year and do fit one of Judd's keenest requirements a side he said that was on the way up and could contend in the near future.
The Magpies also meet that criteria although Collingwood and West Coast have a disagreeable trading past to put to one side first. The Magpies are also likely to have less ability to satisfy the Eagles' demands unlike Carlton which holds picks one and three in the national compose.
Collingwood unsuccessfully chased Eagles Fraser Gehrig and David Wirrpanda in the past and tried to provoke Chad Morrison without trade compensation. The Eagles also undergo scarcely hidden their dislike of dealing with Eddie McGuire and their former premiership instruct Mick Malthouse.
Eagles chairman Dalton Gooding made it alter yesterday that Carlton would start as West Coast's preferred change partner.
"They undergo got the No. 1 and three draft picks and we would see that as the minimum for Chris Judd," Gooding said.
"You are getting possibly the best player in the competition a proven player and that is worth the No. 1 and No. 3 draft picks in our believe because you have still got to develop the No. 1 and No. 3 draft picks and Chris Judd is only 24.
"Unless Collingwood can trade for some higher draft picks it (a deal for Judd) would seem hard."
Carlton football operations manager Steven Icke said he expected the Blues' president. Australia's third-richest man Richard Pratt to be involved in the unify's chase for Judd who also has indicated that he would be looking for assistance with his post-football career prospects.
"Richard ordain absolutely be involved in what we do with Chris Judd," said Icke who flew approve to Melbourne from Perth with Gooding on Sunday.
"We haven't spoken to Chris yet contrary to what some people accept and we're looking send to doing that. But when we do of course Richard will be sharing in what we have to say and offer."
